Old Soldier and Prominent Resident Passed Away Suddenly Last Sunday.

The many friends of the Kelly family were shocked Sunday when word passed around that Mr. Kelly had died suddenly at his home, 8 W. 137th street, Riverdale. Shortly after dinner he started to walk up-stairs to lay down. When near the top his daughter heard him moan and ran to his assistance. He fell into her arms midway down the stairs and they both fell to the bottom.

He was dazed when picked up and never regained consciousness. Heart failure was the cause of his death.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning from St. Mary's Church conducted by Father Dettmer. George W. Spencer Post conducted the services at the house.

Michael H. Kelly was born at Louisville, New York, Oct. 19, 1844. When less than 18 years old, March 14, 1862, he enlisted in Company F, 193rd Regiment, New York Vol. Infantry and was discharged at Harper's Ferry, Jan. 18, 1866.

He was united in marriage to Emma Mullarney at Madison, Wis., in April 1870. A short time later they moved to Homewood. In 1893 they settled in Riverdale; Mrs. Kelly died Oct. 4, 1912 and the old soldier mourned her deeply until he passed away.

He leaves two sons and three daughters to mourn his death, namely; Carrie (Mrs. O.V. Huntley) Riverdale, Arthur J. of Indianapolis, George M., Alma and Gertrude of Riverdale.

Mr. Kelly was for many years a prominent and active resident of this community, as member of the village board, the school board and business man. He was successful and leaves a comfortable fortune to his children. He was held in high regard as an honest man and patriot. He took an active part in patriotic demonstrations and done much to inculcate a spirit of love for home and country, and a large American flag draped his casket.

Riverdale loses a good citizen, his neighbors a true friend and his family, a worthy and loving father.

Interment was at Oakland cemetery.
