Morris Sullivan Curtis was born to Mary Curtis in McDowell County on November 23, 1885. He married Maggie Harris and they produced ten children, which are six daughters and four sons. Morris was the first man to run the powerhouse generators at the Lake Tahoma Damn Powerhouse on Buck Creek. He and his family lived in a large white house below the Lake Tahoma Damn. After his death in 1949 Maggie never remarried. Morris was a short man, five feet and a few inches. Maggie was close to six feet tall. They were a perfect match. Morris was called "Papa" by his children. He is buried beside Maggie in what is now called the Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church Cemetery previously it was known as the Clear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Many of Maggie and Morris's children and grandchildren are buried in the same cemetery.
