Mrs. J. P. Marling Passes Away, After Submitting to Serious Operation - Lived Here 40 Years

Mrs. J. P. Marling passed away Sunday morning at 7:50 o'clock in Mercy Hospital. She had been ill but a week, complications having set in after a violent attack of appendicitis, and the operation, consequent thereon ....

The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon, at 2 o'clock, from her late home, 127-1/2 College street.

The decedent is survived by a husband and two sons, C. H. Marling of Omaha; and F. P. Marling of Cedar Rapids. Other near kinsfolk are her two brothers, Dr. J. K. Milbourne, of Clinton, Iowa, and J. R. Milbourne, of Elwood, Ind.; and one sister, Mrs. William Gruber of Branch, Mo.

Mrs. Marling was 58 years, three months and ten days of age. She was born in New Concord, Ohio, and came hither (from Cambridge, Ohio) in 1864. during her 40 years in Iowa City, she proved an amiable, warm hearted woman, and won scores of good friends who will mourn deeply because of her death.

A Woman of Superior Character and Attainments, Whose Demise Is Sincerely Mourned

The following tribute was read ....

Sarah Matilda Milbourne was born in Otsego, Muskingum County, Ohio, Sept. 8, 1846. Her parents' names were Jonathan Acre Milbourne and Eliza C. Milbourne. Her father preceded her to the other world many years ago, dying near Hanover, Washington county, Kansas, in 1872. Her mother died here at her home last August, being in her 87th year. Two brothers and one sister survive here. One brother, John F. Milbourne, resides in Elwood, Indiana; another, Dr. Joseph K. Milbourne, in Clinton, Ia., and her sister, Mrs. Mary E. Gruber in Branch, Mo.

Miss Milbourne received her early training and education in New Concord, Ohio ....

She was married to John P. Marling Sept. 28, 1864, in Zanesville, Ohio, and came immediately to Iowa, landing in Iowa City on October 1st .... (lengthy article continues)
