Otto was the first child of Peter Martin and Mary (Rehder)Falk. They had a happy life on a little farm that Peter had homesteaded in York Township Pottawatomie County Iowa. The farm was just east of Bentley, Iowa. Times were very hard being a farmer. A second son was born in 1878. Peter Falk was of Swedish decent and had survived the potato famnine in Sweden,His little Iowa Family needed extra finances so during the off time from farming in 1880 Peter went to Leadville Colorado and worked in the mines. While he was there he was involved in a mining accident and was killed. His death left a wife and two little boys. Mary Rehder Falk married William P Andersen. She and William had two more children. William and Lydia. When old enough the boys started working on the farm for their stepfather who now had his farm and his wifes farm.
The boys were brought up now in a German household (Mary & William Anderson was originally from Germany) As they grew up they did not remember their Swedish father or the Swedish ancestry only the German... It was forgotten and after Otto married and had children they were not told they were of Swedish decent..Mary Rehder Falk Anderson died in 1915 and was buried in the Minden Iowa Cemetery.
Mr. Andersen bequeathed in his will each of the boys (Otto & Louis) $1.00 and nothing if they contested the will...So they lost their rightful inheritance.William P. Anderson died in 1930.
Otto married Mary Bestmann daughter of John and Maria Thies Bestmann They had 6 children that lived to adulthood.
Emelia, Cecelia, Otto jr, John, Edward, Elmer and Clarence who died in infancy.
