Earl 'V' Wilcox, 84, of Archer, died December 3, 2011 of natural causes.
Earl was born August 29, 1927 to David Oswell Jr. and Nessie Gilbert Wilcox at their family home in Sunnydell, Idaho. He grew up working on the Wilcox family farm. He attended schools in Archer and Rexburg.
He was drafted into the Army and served in Ft. Ord California and Ft. Lewis Washington. He was trained to operate and repair heavy equipment which prepared him for his life's work. Earl married Ella Mae Hardy, March 3, 1950 in Menan, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple March 15, 1961.
Earl's first job was working for the Madison County Soil Conservation District clearing sage brush and lava rock for the road to be built from Rexburg to Sage Junction. He owned and operated land leveling equipment used to level much of the area's farm land for improved irrigation. He logged timber in the Island Park area and was a logging contractor for the Stud Mill in St. Anthony for 26 years. He worked for Idaho Travertine, quarrying rock in Swan Valley. He worked for Jensen Lumber in Ovid, Idaho, logging in the Soda Springs area. He was happiest when operating a caterpillar tractor and enjoyed the challenge of every job.
Earl served 25 years as a commissioner on the Flood Control Board for the Army Corp of Engineers keeping a watchful eye on the south fork of the Snake River.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed his service and association with members of the Archer and Sunnydell Wards. He held many positions through the years and was a devoted Home Teacher. The highlight of his service was the 25 years he served with Ella Mae in the Idaho Falls Temple.
He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed traveling and many outings with his family at their special picnic place. He will be remembered for his hard work and integrity. He was a genuine friend, a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Earl is survived by his wife, Ella Mae; children: Cathie (Lynn) Schow , Malad, Karen (Dan) Pierce, Hampstead, North Carolina, Sandra (L.J.) Koller, Provo, Utah, Blaine (Shari) Wilcox, and Gary (Wendy) Wilcox, Archer, Debra (Bill) Coblentz, Fallon, Nevada; 26 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; twin brother Verl 'G' Wilcox, Blackfoot, and brother Clifford (June) Wilcox, St. George, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Adrian, Lamont, Grant; sister, Fern.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 9 in the Archer/Sunnydell Ward chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Interment with military honors will be at the Sutton Cemetery.
