Sergeant Jack D. Atkins, Metropolitan Police Department, Washington, DC-First District (1D), retired in November 1980, passed away on November 30, 2011. Sergeant Atkins name will be added to the Memoriam pages.

Sergeant Atkins last known residence was in Hopewell, Virginia.

The family of Brother Atkins asked that we post the following:

Jackie (Jack) Darrell Atkins, 77, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, November 30 after an extended illness. He was born May 16, 1934 in Amherstdale, West Virginia. He was a Master Sergeant in the U.S Marine Corps and a retired Sergeant with the DC Metropolitan Police Department. Jack enjoyed working on cars and military related history. There are many fond family memories of him looking for a short cut using back roads.

Surviving him are his wife, Frances; his children: Darrell (Arlene) of Middletown, Maryland, Danny of Warrenton, Virginia, Gail (Ron) Malin of Fulton, Maryland, Shelley (Craig) Strosnider of Hopewell, and Dirk of Hopewell, Virginia; 8 grandchildren: Ashley (Justin) Palmer, Danny & Amanda Atkins, Mitchell & Michael Malin, Shana Smith, Marisa & Madison Strosnider, and 3 greatchildren: Kulen, Keelee and Kayson Kyle; 3 siblings: David (Mary) and Bob (Darlene) Atkins of Ohio, and Judy (Danny) Booth of North Carolina; 4 sister-in-laws: Joyce Atkins, Betty Atkins, Ruth Tomblin, and Clara Browning, and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Darla (Dee) Smith; 2 brothers, Donald & Johnny; and grandson, Kyle Smith.

He will be interned in Arlington National Cemetery on March 12, 2012 at 1pm.
