Born Eva Isabella Goodwin, daughter of John and Sarah (Smith) Goodwin, she came to Mankato from Judson with her family at an early age. She lived continuously in this city with the exception of a few years when she resided with her family in St. Paul. Educated in the Mankato public schools, she graduated from the high school here and later from the Mankato Normal school. She attended Carleton College in Northfield, and at the same time was art supervisor in the public schools of that city. She began teaching school when only 15 years of age in a district school near Mankato. Later she taught a number of years in the old Union school, completing in all 21 years of educational service.
In 1900 she married De Vernette Williams, and to this union one daughter was born. Mr. Williams died in 1908. In 1920 she married Fred Loring Austin.
Mrs. Austin is survived by her husband; one daughter, Lylah V. Williams, who is presently teaching and studying music at Augustana college in Sioux Falls, S. D.; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Hugunin of Centralia, Wash., and Miss Lulu Goodwin of Tacoma, Wash.; and two brothers, William A. Goodwin of Sandstone, Minn., and Charles Goodwin of Portland Ore.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in the First Baptist church. Burial will take place in Glenwood cemetery.
