Byers was born in Downey, CA, and was a resident of Bogalusa, LA, for approximately 10 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a pharmacist's mate, and later traveled all over the world in the construction industry as a pipeline welder for various companies. Byers was a Presbyterian.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila L. Byers of Bogalusa; one son, Roger K. Byers of Marrero, LA; one daughter-in-law, Sue M. Eddy of Lafayette, LA; one brother, George G. Byers of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Christina K. Byers, Rusty M. Eddy, Shannon Eddy and Shawn Eddy Belmore; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his step-son, Douglas W. Eddy; and his parents, Lee L. Byers Sr. and Urna Louis Byers.
The funeral service will be held at Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi Friday at 11:30 A.M. Graveside Services will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
