He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Victoria Evans; mother, Mary Evans; son, Matthew Evans; sister, Joan King; mother-in-law, Dorothy Gonzalez; his special aunt, Ruth Jamerson; and several aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Mahlon Evans.
Mel was a man of big dreams and free spirit who loved the ocean and travel. His hobbies were salt water fishing, crabbing, playing the piano, and landscaping. He loved his two Yorkie "Babies," Buffy and Daisy-May. He will be missed by all who knew him. The family would like to send a special "Thank You" to the Chesterfield Fire and Rescue Squad.
The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Road (Rte. 10). A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park. The family suggests donations to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, Md. 20852, or the American Heart Association , 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, Va. 23060.
