333rd Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division
Entered the Service from: Michigan
Awards: Purple Heart
Gentry was killed at Les Failles, Belgium, in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a PFC in Co. C, 2nd Plt., 1st Battalion, 333rd Regiment, 84th Infantry Division. Kirby and Gentry worked for US Rubber in Detroit. Kirby and others were drafted but Gentry was not. Thinking others would think he was a draft-dodger, he joined the army and was assigned to artillery. D-Day consumed so many riflemen that Gentry was briefly trained, then assigned to infantry. He was educated at Livingston Academy, Livingston, TN.
