Catherine V. Minnick
Formerly of Upper Darby

Catherine V. Minnick, 84, a longtime resident of Upper Darby and devoted family woman, died December 8 with several of her children by her side.
Mrs. Minnick was born in Philadelphia in 1927 to Florence and Charles Welsh and attended St. Gregory the Great Elementary School and later West Catholic High School, class of 1945.
Mrs. Minnick, a widow of two years loved to travel, especially with her husband Raymond, of 62 years, and friends all across the U.S., Caribbean and Ireland. One of her last trips was to China where she visited her daughter and son-in-law and excitedly talked about seeing the Great Wall, a site she never dreamed she would live to see.
Mrs. Minnick and her husband were residents of Upper Darby for 50 years and members of St. Laurence Parish, where she was very involved in parish life and ministry and the school during the years her five children attended. As a Eucharistic Minister, Mrs. Minnick loved to bring Communion to the sick at nearby Delaware County Hospital and would always remark how much she received from the patients she would visit. Mrs. Minnick also worked as an administrative assistant in various office settings in Philadelphia over the years.
Along with her husband, one of Mrs. Minnick's favorite pastimes was attending the many football, basketball, baseball, hockey and lacrosse games of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed many summers with her children, grandchildren, sisters and brothers and their children, at the New Jersey shore.
Survivors: sons Raymond Minnick of Malvern, James Minnick of Morton, Steve Minnick of Broomall, daughters Cathy Duncan of Pennington, NJ, Maureen Dienno of Austin, Texas; 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Also survived by her sister Helen Gerber and her brother James Welsh.
