John Henry Ackermann, age 79, passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 at his home in Ponce de Leon, Florida. He was born in Bonifay, FL on January 27, 1932.

John was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Ponce de Leon and was an Army veteran. John’s friends and neighbors knew they could always depend on him, whether it was driving them to their doctor appointments or repairing items around their home, John would be there.

Family members preceding him in death were his parents, John Henry and Josephine Taraba Ackermann, two sisters: Ann Enfinger, Virginia Linton and a grand nephew, Kenneth Padgett.

John is survived by a niece, Ann Padgett of Ponce de Leon, FL, and three nephews: David Enfinger and wife Judy of Bonnet Pond, Danny Enfinger and wife June of Ponce de Leon, and Peter Linton of Blountstown, FL, three Great nephews: Chuck Padgett and wife Nancy of Chipley, FL ,Judd Enfinger and wife Beth of Tallahassee and Thad Enfinger and wife Jessica of Gaithersburg, Maryland, three grand nieces: Twila Geraci and husband Joe of Ponce de Leon, Martha Howell also of Ponce de Leon, and Amy Alderman and husband Luke of Altha, FL; and numerous great grand nephews and nieces.

A time of visitation will be held Thursday, April 7, 2011, from 6 until 8 pm in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, FL. A private family interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Ponce de Leon, will be held at a later date.
