Mrs. Ethel M. (Brechbiel) Barlup, 90, of 120 N. Franklin St., Waynesboro, PA, died at 2:42 P.M. Saturday, December 13, 2003 in the emergency room of Waynesboro Hospital. Death was unexpected and attributed to heart failure.

Born January 27, 1913 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Harvey F. and Edith R. (Weyant) Brechbiel. She lived most of her life in the Waynesboro area.

Mrs. Barlup attended Waynesboro schools.

She and her husband, the late Barry Ronald Barlup, were married on April 6, 1932 in Hagerstown, MD. They moved to the present residence in 1963. Mr. Barlup died on Sept. 20, 1973.

Mrs. Barlup was employed at Stanley Company in Chambersburg, PA as a seamstress and at Leiter Brothers Clothing Store, Waynesboro. She later worked seasonally for Knouse Foods.

She was a member of Salem Church, Waynesboro and attended the Ringgold Church of Christ, Ringgold, MD and was a member of the former North Chapter AARP 739 in Waynesboro.

Prior to her stroke in July 1987, her hobbies included bowling and traveling. Since then, she has enjoyed playing board games, doing word-find sheets, watching television, and being with her grandchildren.

She is survived by four daughters, R. Yvonne Baker and Myrna L. Shatzer, both of Waynesboro, Phyllis D. Snyder, Maugansville, MD, and G. Kay Ridgely, Port Richey, FL; two sons, Ronald O. "Mick" Barlup and Darrell B. Barlup, both of Waynesboro; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Wink, Westminster, MD; one brother Harvey F. Brechbiel, Jr., Fayetteville, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, H. Lynn Barlup in 1964; three grandchildren, Crystal Helman, Dale Lynn Barlup, and Robert T. Brindle, two great-grandchildren, Stephanie Helman, and Anthony Barlup; one sister Orlea R. Brechbiel; and three brothers, Kenneth Brechbiel, George A. Brechbiel, and Donald L. Brechbiel.
