A resident of Ansonia since 1961, he had worked at the Farrel Corp. in Ansonia for 40 years until his retirement. A veteran of World War II, he had honorably served in the U.S. Army. He was a faithful communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia, where he served as an usher at the 8 a.m. Mass. At the church, he was a member of the St. Joseph's Men's Society, Catholic Men's Club, Bocci League, as well as being a hard worker during the annual festival. He was also an avid bowler and a member of the Farrel Old Timers Club.
He is survived by two sons, Vinni D. Abate of Woodbridge, and Michael A. Abate of Seymour; two daughters, Cynthia R. Abate and Antoinette Thomson, both of Ansonia; a sister, Rose Carotenuto of Ansonia; and special granddaughter, Chelsey Abate of Woodbridge.
Friends and relatives are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Spinelli-Malerba-Ricciuti Funeral Home, 62 Beaver Street, Ansonia.
