Del passed away in Boise, Idaho at the age of 99 years. 'Many Horses' has hung up his spurs.
He was the 2nd of 3 children born to Howard Franklin & Florence Oriole Boyer in Jackson, Montana. His father was killed in a homesteading accident when Del was 5 yrs old. After his mother married Albert Bates, 2 sisters were born to the family. He always had nothing but praise for his new father.
Del grew up near the Oglala Souix Nation, mingling with the people. He earned the Indian name 'Many Horses' because everytime he rode into their camp he was on a different horse he had caught.
Del married Viola Mae Inloes on Oct. 13, 1940 in Hamilton, Montana. They became parents to Dianne Bean, Gene Boyer, Bob Boyer & Brent Boyer. Viola preceded him in death in November 2011.
Dad was the last of the true cowboys. A Celebration of Life will be held for Del & Viola in the spring of 2012.
