Alvina M. Bernthal, 94, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother went to be with her Lord on Monday October 3, 2011 at the Lutheran Home of Frankenmuth. She was a life long resident of Reese. "Gram" will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was born on October 27, 1916 in Gera, daughter of the late William and Emma (Ortner) Hegenaur. Alvina was united in marriage to Walter Bernthal on December 25, 1935 in Frankenmuth. He predeceased her on October 19, 2001.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, James and Karen Bernthal of Bay City, Robert and Laura Bernthal of Frankenmuth and Sandra and James DuRussel of Grand Rapids; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren who she deeply enjoyed hosting at her Drummond Island Cottage. Also surviving are her sisters, Arlene Weiss, Marie Geyer, brother Wyman Hegenaur all of Frankenmuth.
Alvina was a house wife and very active in her church, Trinity Lutheran in Reese. She was also a member and leader of Recovery Inc. for many years. She loved being with her family, going out to dinner, the Bible and Detroit Tigers Baseball.
In addition to her husband Walt, one daughter Nancy Bender and two brothers, Wilmar and William Hegenaur all predeceased her.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2011 from Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. Rev. Dr. Robert Bennett will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
~VISITATION~
Alvina's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw Street, Reese on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
