Robert Slattery, age 64, of Bryant, died on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, while deer hunting on his land in the township of Stella in Oneida County.

He was born on Thursday, Feb. 18, 1943, in Appleton, son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Wood) Slattery. He married Bonnie Grimm on Aug. 28, 1965, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Two Rivers. She survives. In 1961, he graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Master of Science degree in botany at the University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana, and his Ph.D. in plant
pathology and horticulture at the University of Minnesota-St. Paul. He was employed by the State of Wisconsin, as director of the Potato Certified Seed Program in Langlade County, for seven years. He was director of Wisconsin Operations for Frito Lay, Inc., prior to his work as a consultant for Heartland Farms in Handcock. He retired in 2006. Within the potato industry, he served on many boards and committees. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Antigo, where he was a member of the Finance Council, and volunteered for many church activities. He is a member of Monsignor Saile Council 1002, and Knights of Columbus, Antigo. Since 1993, he has served as chairman of the township of Price, Langlade County. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to go fishing on Lake Michigan with his many friends. He enjoyed carving wood decoys and playing cards with his buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Mark Slattery; and father-in-law: Norbert Grimm.

Funeral services will be held at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo, on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at noon, with the Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Interment will be held later in the Holy Cross Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, from 9 a.m. to noon at St. John Catholic Church.
