Samuel Ernest Tolman, born July 5, 1911, was raised in the Pocatello area living in Tyhee most of his youth. Being raised on a farm he was responsible for and carried out many chores at a very young age. He attended Tyhee grade school, Irving Jr. High and graduated from Pocatello High School.
As a young man he enjoyed actively participating in basketball and baseball. He excelled in baseball and his team won an all church tournament in the 1950's.
He met June Carver in Pocatello and married her on November 11th, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had three children, 2 sons and 1 daughter who were all raised in Pocatello. He has 20 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years as an electrician retiring in 1976. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life and served in many capacities. For many years he taught dance to youth and worked in the Pocatello LDS cannery for 19 years as the quality controller.
He lost his beloved June in August of 2004 after 67 years of marriage. As the head of his family he excelled in setting the example of kindness, helpfulness, integrity and common sense. He is greatly loved by all his family and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his sons and their wives, Ernie and Allene Tolman of Pocatello, Idaho, Steve and Donna Tolman of Twin Falls, Idaho, and his daughter and her husband Joy and Bill Chalk of League City, Texas.Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Cornelison Funeral Chapel, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery, Preston, Idaho, at 2 pm Wednesday.
