Mary Shelby of Big Ivy Community was named Hardin County Clubwoman of the year at the Home Demonstration Clubs’ annual 100% Luncheon which was held at Nixon School on January 15, 1966. She was chosen from candidate nominated from each of the thirteen Home Demonstration Clubs in the county.
Mrs. Shelby is one of the senior members of Hardin County’s Home Demonstration Clubs. At 73, she has been active in club work for 33 years. She served a Home Management Leader in the Big Ivy Club this year, and in previous years has held the offices of president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer.
In spite of her recent quite serious illness, the Clubwomen of the year is still one of the most active people in her community. She has since its organization in 1937, been an active member of the Big Ivy Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She is a member of the Big Ivy Missionary Society, and an active member of the Big Ivy Community Club, one of the outstanding community clubs of the county.
One of the Shelby’s six children was killed during World War II. The other five are still living and they have 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Shelby is to be congratulated on receiving this fine honor.
