Born near Arenzville, he was a son of Ulysses S. Grant Coy (1865-1910) and Sarah Elizabeth (Kuhlman) Coy (1867-1953). He helped to build the Panama Canal and served in the Army during World War I. He later worked on the railroad and was a carpenter and electrian. He married Lydia "Elton" Pond on 20 April 1919 in Meredosia, Morgan County, Illinois. They had two children, Janice Meredith (Coy) Watson and Allan Kent Coy, both of whom are buried here and 8 grandchildren.
