Walter Abbott

Walter W. Abbott, 66, of Parma, died Wednesday, December 7, 1994, at the Caldwell hospital of natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 12, 1994, at Sterry Memorial Presbyterian Church, Roswell, Idaho, with Pastor Philip J. Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. Friends may call on Sunday at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Parma, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Mr. Abbott was born February 16, 1928, at Parma, Idaho, to Gurnsey and Rita Fletcher Abbott. Most of his education was received in the Roswell School District, however his last year of high school was at Parma High School where he graduated with the class of 1946. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Marine Corps until he was honorably discharged. Walter married Pearle Smith on May 12, 1951, at Parma. To this union three children were born. They were later divorced. He married Sheila Search February 16, 1975, at Reno, Nevada. Walter's working years covered many fields. The most notable would be the Amalgamated Sugar Co. from 1957 to 1974 at which time he went to work for May Trucking as a dispatcher until his retirement in 1991.

Walter was very much a people person who enjoyed helping his family and friends whenever he could. He was a big fan of the great outdoors. He enjoyed many thing, including farming, gardening, traveling, the ocean, working with rocks and star gazing, just to name a few. He will be greatly missed by a host of family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila of Parma; his children, Lynda Sue Mann and Rick Abbot of Nampa, Len Abbott and Bobbie Joe Flores of Parma; his stepchildren, Ronald Cartwright of Manano Island, WA., Donald Cartwright of Nyssa, Or., Larraine Barbee of Meridian, and Bruce Cartwright of Adrian, Or.; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Marvin Abbott of Parma, Orville Abbott of Carmichael, CA., Norman Abbott of Meridian, Leslie Abbott, Ray Abott and Erma Schott, all of Parma, and Ardith Fretwell of Marysville, W.; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Sterry Memorial Presbyterian Church, 28531 Hwy. 18, Parma, Idaho 83660, or flowers may be sent.
