Youngest child of Nels & Hanna "Anna" (Olsdotter) Peterson. Alfred is their 6th child and 3rd son. His parents and two of his siblings came from Sweden in 1883.

Family knows little of Alfreds history. On WWI draft card June 05, 1917 in Phelps County, Nebraska, he states he is married with one child. We do not know cause of his death at just 31 years of age.

In the Jan. 27, 1920 census they are in Garfield twp, Phelps, Nebraska, and their son Alfred Ephrain Peterson, Jr. is listed as age 3 yrs 11 mos. They (he, Pearl and Jr,) are listed right under his father who is a widower living with one of Alfred's sister's Emma and her husband Siles Samuelson. Three families above them is another sister Hilma who had married John Godtfred Broberg and their 6 children. All listed as farmers.

In 1930 census his widow Pearl and son Alfred Jr., are in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri running a boarding house.

Written;Sep 2012 by WLS. UPDATED: 03 Apr 2017. We have found they married 20 Jan 1917 in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska, also that they moved not long after the Jan 1920 census to just outside of Mayetta, Jackson, Kansas.

We still do not know true cause of death (wondering if it could of been that outhouse was to close to well or maybe being winter, chimney not venting right which may of caused the illness for them and his death or did he have what his older brother August E.Peterson had, that caused his death at age 39, it being Pernicious Anemia, that caused his death, and family illness was just colds?), nor so we know if he is beside her here in this cemetery. Stating all of this because of these write-ups from Mayetta area newspapers in Jackson County, Kansas, that thanks to his great/grand nephew J.D. Peterson who sent me these articles listed below:

Mayetta Department. Alfred Peterson, age 31 years, died at his home, one-half mile north of Mayetta, Monday evening, January 29, at 7:30. Mr. Peterson had been sick for sometime but not seriously until about three or four days before he passed away. He suffered terribly and the pain that he went through no one can tell. He came to the community some two years ago and lived at the home until his death. He attended the Christian church here....the body was taken to Morrill, Kansas, in Brown County, the burial, at his old home. At the time of his death his wife was very ill. She and the little boy have the sympathy of the entire community.

Cedarvale and Vicinity. Alfred Peterson died Monday evening and was buried at the old home in Nebraska Wednesday. He leave a widow and one son, Alfred Junior...The Holton Recorder, February 9, 1922.

Mayetta Department. The funeral of Alfred E. Peterson....Mrs. Peterson who has not been feeling well went to Fairbury, Nebr., Monday with her son, where they will visit indefinitely. The Holton Signal, February 9, 1922.

Note: We were not sure if he was here, but have found out that he is, per a write up for his funeral that took place on Wednesday the 1st of Feb. She must of wanted to take him home for burial when he first died, but then because of expense or his family said it was not necessary, she placed him here, with her joining him 14 years later. Also paper who said he passed on Monday the 29th, was incorrect. If you check calendar for Jan 1922 the 29th was a Sunday not Monday. So 30th on stone is correct. Proof can be found in Brown Co. Genealogical Soc.
