Funeral services were held on Monday, August 4, 1986 at Cedar Memorial Church in Cedar Rapids, for Ben Abben, 83, of Cedar Rapids, and formerly of Little Cedar, Iowa. Mr. Abben died on Friday, August 1, 1986, at a Cedar Rapids nursing home. Burial was in the Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Mr. Abben was born on September 29, 1902 to Dirk and Gepke (Diddens) Abben in Britt, Iowa.

He married Bena Gersema on December 21, 1924 in Allison, Iowa. They farmed for many years in the Northwood and Little Cedar areas. after moving to Cedar Rapids, he worked for Copper-Miller Construction until retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Bena; four daughters: Mrs. Dale (Helen) Reckner of Rock Falls, Mrs. Lloyd (Elda) Bartholmey of Kasson, Minnesota, Mrs. Ray (Mildred) Rhodes of Coggan and Mrs. Clair (Dorothy) Caldwell of Cedar Rapids; five sons: Leland of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Kenneth of Cedar Rapids, Duane and Millard (Bud), both of Little Cedar, and Harold of Joplin, Missouri; 32 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gephard of Waterloo, and a sister, Katie and Effie Abben, both of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
