Minnie Olson
Mrs. Minnie (Mint) Sommerville Olson, who marked her 100th birthday this August, died yesterday at an Aberdeen nursing home.
She was born Aug. 1, 1871 in a section of Virginia that eventually became the State of West Virginia. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah L. Wade and moved with her family to the Washington Territory at the age of six settling at "Wildwood Home," a south Montesano farm.

The Wades moved to Taholah in 1880, when Mr. Wade was appointed construction superintendent for the Quinault Indian reservation in 1880. Mrs. Olson learned the Chinook language and dozens of songs which she never forgot.

She married William J. Carter Dec. 24, 1890 at Montesano and he died in 1901. Three years later, she married Perry Olson, a farmer, and they stayed in Montesano until moving to Long Beach, Calif., in 1923. Mr. Olson died in 1947 and she returned to the Harbor in 1956, to be near her two daughters, Mrs. Claude (Florence) Pickering of Aberdeen, and Mrs. Mabel Carter Blanch, who died in March of this year.

In addition to her daughter, she is survivied by five grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Arrangements are announced by the Whiteside Chapel of Montesano in tonight's funeral notice section.
