CUYLER — Randy Wimer,
17, of 4945 Tripoli Rd., Cuyler,
drowned in the East Branch of
the Tioughnioga River Thursday
afternoon about one mile
east of his home.
He, with Ronnie Stanton and
Steven Breed were playing on
the river bank, sliding down
hill, when Wimer slipped into
15 feet of water. His companions
attempted to rescue him but were unable to do so.
They stopped a passing motorist,
Paul Crossman of Albany,
and a passenger, who recovered
the body. The DeRuyter Rescue
Squad was unable to revive the
youth.
County Corner Dr. John Eckel
ruled death was by suffocation
from drowning.

Randy Wimer was born in
Cortland, May 5, 1952 and attended
DeRuyter Central School
where he was a sophomore.
He is survived by his mother,
Mrs. Elizabeth Ingersoll Wimer,his father, Gordon Wimer and two sisters,Sherry and Lynda and;
one brother, Jeffery, all of Cuyler;
his maternal grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Bernal Ingersoll
of New Woodstock; paternal
grandfather , McKinley
Wimer of Marathon; and several
aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held
Saturday at 2 p. m. from the
Smith Funeral Home in DeRuyter
with the Rev. Norman J.
Morris officiating. Interment
will be in Hillcrest Cemetery,
DeRuyter.
Friends may call at the funeral
home Friday.
