DIED
At Wyalusing, Wis., on Wednesday, March 16th, 1892, MRS. ELIZABETH DERBY, wife of D.W. Derby, at the age of 65 years.
She took the prevailing disease, La Grippe, some few weeks ago and that grew into the pneumonia. When she was ill the fire destroying their house occurred, and exposure and excitement caused her to grow worse, and just one week after the fire she expired at the house of a neighbor. She leaves a husband, one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Ladd of Sioux City, and five sons to mourn her death. Her sister, Mrs. Ann Drips, of Chicago, was unable to attend the funeral.
Mr. Derby has been sick all winter and he is now very low; it is thought he will not linger long.
Mr. and Mrs. Derby are well known in McGregor and have many close friends here who sorrow with the afflicted family. Mrs. Jordan, Mrs. Luthe and Miss Emma Luthe attended the funeral from McGregor on Friday and Mrs. Madge Bernard and Mr. Frank Rodgers from Elkader.
"Tis sweet, as year by year, we lose
Friends out of sight in faith to muse
How grows in Paradise our store."
