Beuford Newton Rowe passed away peacefully in his home early Wednesday morning, Jan. 3, 2001.

Beuford was the son of Newton and Mazie (Swank) Rowe. He was born July 9, 1912 in Kosciusko County, Indiana. He married Olive Young on Nov. 29, 1934. They were married approximately 66 years.

After graduation from Ann Arbor Michigan High School, he worked for the A&P company. In 1939, he began a 50-plus-year farming career in the Bremen area.

Beuford was also active in the local community. He served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Land Bank, First Source Bank, and Community Hospital of Bremen. He was appointed as a member of the State Emergency Medical Services Commission, a position which he held for many years. Beuford was a two-time recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award for his service to the community. He was also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for many years.

Beuford is survived by his wife, Olive; his daughter, Linda Lisk and her husband, James, of Cincinnati, Ohio; his three sons, John and Daniece Rowe of Bremen, Bill and Gloria Rowe of Fallbrook, Calif. and Curtis and Shannon Rowe of Corcoran, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Olive Novess and Josephine Koch.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Roger Rohde, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial followed at Bremen Cemetery. Friends called from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
