He was born Nov. 24, 1926, in Frogtown, a son of the late Anthony and Mamie (Rupert) DeMary.
Alfred was the founder and owner of the DeMary Body and Fender Shop, New Alexandria, for more than 60 years. He was formerly employed by RobertShaw Controls, Youngwood. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army, where he earned the rank of sergeant. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, New Alexandria, and the Blairsville VFW. Alfred was an avid hunter who enjoyed hunting with his wife at their cabin on Mt. Davis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank, Leonard and Samuel; and sisters, Pauline and Anna Mary.
Alfred will be sadly missed and is survived by his loving family, his devoted wife and companion of 62 years, Pearl G. (Baker) DeMary; their children, Fred DeMary Jr., his wife, Kathy and their family, of United, Jeff DeMary, of New Alexandria, and Melanie Gearhart and her husband, Gary, of Norvelt; brother, Louis DeMary and his wife, Dotty, of Latrobe; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cat, Punkin Py. He will be especially missed by his beloved grandson, Joel DeMary, of whom he was very proud.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, 15626, 724-468-1177. Funeral services for Alfred will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Monsignor Lawrence Persico, of St. James Catholic Church, New Alexandria, officiating.
