Louis J. Tegeler, 35, Rt. 2 Olney, Illinois, died at 9:45 a.m Tuesday at his home as the result of an apparent self inflicted asphyxiation.

According to Richland County coroner Susan Landis Bromm Mr. Tegeler was found by his wife hanged in his garage when she returned home at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday. Landis said he was last seen alive at 9:30 a.m. by his wife before she left the house. When Mrs. Tegeler returned, Landis said, she found her husband dead in the garage.

An inquest into Tegeler's death will be held after lab tests are completed.

Services will be at the Olney, Illinois, St. Joseph Church with Rev. Father Donald Eichenseer presiding. Visitation is at the Summers Funeral Home, with a rosary. Burial is in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham, Illinois.

Mr. Tegeler was born in Effingham, Illinois, Feb. 6, 1946 to Albert B. and Mildred (Haarman) Tegeler.

He married Theresa Dust July 8, 1970. She survives. He was an anesthestist for Richland Memorial Hospital and a member of the St. Joseph Church, the Olney Knights of Columbus, and the Olney Elks. He was an officer in the Navy and served with the medical corps in the Vietnam War.

Survivors include three sons, Mark, Matthew, and Michael Tegeler, all at home; two brothers, William, Heyworth, IL and Robert, Edwardsville, Illinois; four sisters, Mary Ann Richy, Phoenix, Arizona, Dorothy Geisler, Bloomington, Illinois, Joan Saylor, Evansville, Indiana, and Susan Runde, St. Louis, Missouri; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Tegeler, Effingham, Illinois; and a grandmother, Anna Haarman, Effingham, Illinois.
