"Edith May Johnson, 92, Killeen, Texas, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in a Killeen hospital.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in First United Methodist Church in Stillwater with Pastor Wanda Murray officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore. Services are under the direction of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen.
Johnson was born June 20, 1909, in Claremore and was raised and educated there.
She attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha for two years in pursuit of a degree in elementary education. She taught in Claremore Public Schools for about two years, then attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, where she completed her degree in elementary education. She then taught in Stillwater Public Schools from 1951 until her retirement in 1974. She earned a master's degree in elementary education from OSU in 1955.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and First United Methodist Church in Stillwater. She had lived in Killeen since January 2001.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hubert F. and Caroline Sprangel; her husband, Harold J. Johnson on June 23, 1985; a son, Joe Howard in October 1939; a daughter, Shirley Ann Rose in July 1988; two brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Harold J. "Pete" Johnson Jr. of Chevy Chase, MD., and Dr. Ray M. Johnson, of Harker Heights, Texas; one sister, Ruth Ellen Milner of Okmulgee; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice."
