"Ex-Claremore Official's Rites Slated Today – Claremore – Services for Hubert "Bert" Sprangel, 91, former director of the Claremore city utilities department, are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery here.
Sprangel died Sunday night in an Okmulgee hospital. He had been living in Okmulgee for the past four years with a daughter.
He began work with the old Claremore Light and Ice Co. in 1906. The light and ice firm was purchased by the city in 1907 and Sprangel worked as an electrician until being appointed superintendent in 1917. He retired as head of the department in 1956.
A native of Nebraska, he had lived in Claremore most of his life. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Methodist Church. Claremore Lake Park was renamed Sprangel Park in his honor.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Edith Johnson, Stillwater, Miss Carolyn Sprangel, Longview, Tex., and Mrs. Ruth Milner, Okmulgee; a son Howard Sprangel, Tulsa; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren."
