Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Methodist church for Pat Akery, who died Thursday, Aug. 17 at his home following several months of poor health.
Pat Akery was born December 10, 1892, in Hancock, Mo., but moved to Brooklyn when a small boy. His parents were Thomas Akery, deceased, and Louisa Akery, whose home is here in Brooklyn.
On December 8, 1913 Pat Akery was married to Helen B. Hall. One daughter, Helen Patricia, is of high school age.
Besides the mother, there are two brothers and seven sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
From the time Pat was twelve years of age he made his own way and thus became associated with the business streets.
After the World War he operated a business of his own, having returned to Brooklyn after six months of service at Camp Pike, Arkansas. He has been an active charter member in the American Legion.
At an early age he joined the Presbyterian church. He has been affiliated with the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias lodges and Modern Woodman of America. He later joined the Eagles at Oskaloosa, Ia., where he has been in business the past year.
For several years Mr. Akery has been in serious physical condition, but he has attended to business so perserveringly that many friends and acquaintances were unaware of this. He was taken suddenly very ill Thursday evening, Aug. 17, 1939 and lived but a brief hour.
