Henri Sue Barfoot 86 of Lubbock died December 22, 2011 in Lubbock. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday December 26, 2011 in the Jayton Cemetery in Jayton, Texas with Lula Childers officiating under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

Henri died at home on December 22, 2011 with family, devoted friends and caregivers at her side.

Born December 09, 1925 in Jayton she graduated from Lubbock High School in 1943. Henri attended King's Daughters Hospital School of Nursing in Temple as well as the University of Oregon, Texas Woman's University and the University of Colorado where she received a master's degree in Public Health Nursing Administration.

Henri was a school nurse in Dickens County, a public health nurse in Seminole and supervisor of public health at Plainview-Hale County Health Department. Henri served as a U.S. Army health nurse at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and was a supervisor of tuberculosis control for four regions of the Texas Department of Health. Henri also served as director of Client Services for TDH Regions 2, 12 and 1 from which she retired in 1992.

Henri was a Fellow of the Texas Public Health Association and was active in the American Lung Association and the South Plains Council of Governments. Henri was a member of Altrusa International of Lubbock and of the Texas Nurses Association. Texas Public Health Association recognized her with the Honorary Member Award and in 1991 with the James E. Peavy Memorial Award for outstanding public health work in Texas. Henri also received the Nurse of the Year award from Texas Nurses Association District 18. Henri was a member of Monterey Baptist Church.

Henri was preceded in death by her father A. J. Barfoot; mother Nina Bilberry Barefoot Martin; and nephew Luke Martin.

Henri is survived by a brother L.H. "Luke" Martin Jr and wife Eileen; nephew Matthew V Martin and wife Julie; daughter Jade; niece Nina Nancy Martin; and great-nephew Oliver Hiller of Lubbock.

The family and friends of Henri wish to thank the dedicated caregivers who added so much more than direct care to Sue's daily life.
