MARVEL BARNSON Marvel Lee Barnson, 74, of Las Vegas, died Oct. 24, 2007. She was born May 29, 1933, in Bakersfield, Calif., and had resided in Las Vegas for 70 years. Pete was an extraordinary woman who was not afraid to help others in need. Marvel was a native to the Las Vegas area and attended the original Las Vegas High School. She then attended Brigham Young University, where she received her teaching degree. She worked as a P.E. coach at the old Rancho High School for about 30 years. She loved her cheerleaders, tennis players, and bowlers that she helped coach after school. Toward the end of her career, Pete became a health teacher. After that she retired, but still had an urge to work. Whether it be around the house, or outrunning elderly women and children for beanie babies. Marvel also had two children, her daughter, Lori Barnson and her son, Joey Barnson. She raised them mostly as a single parent and made sure they had everything they would ever need. Her daughter, Lori, had a son, Christopher. Pete took very good care of all of them. When tragedy struck and her daughter, Lori, passed away, Marvel took on the challenge of raising Christopher with her own son, Joey. She is now survived by her son, Joey; and her grandson, Christopher; as well as, her sisters, Lela Stacy and Katie Harper; along with all her cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, students and friends. They are all very proud of her and were blessed to call her "Mom." Services were previously held.
