Newspaper Obituary:
"Smith Leonard was born in Brown county, Ohio, Oct. 15, 1830, He was married to Rebecca Klinger in 1850, who died in 1858. To them three children were born; Catherine, who died in infancy, Samantha J. Simmons and W. H. Leonard. He was again married in March, 1859, to Ann Snoddy, who died in 1868. To this union four children were born; John and George, who preceded him in death, M. K. Leonard and Sarah L. Hudgens. December 14th, 1871 he was united in marriage with Elizia Sapp. To them were born eight children; Smith, Walter and Oscar, who died in infancy, Minnie L. Dommer, A. W. Leonard, A. H. Leonard, Leona Moss and Jessie M. Leffler survive him. He died October 29, 1912, of Hypostatic pneumonia, aged 82 years and 14 days. He is survived by his wife, nine children, thirty-seven grand children, and twenty-six great grand children, besides a host of friends who mourn their loss. The funeral services were held in the old Wesley Chapel. Interment was made in the Wesley Chapel cemetery."
