Joseph was born in/near St. Donatus, Iowa, son of George Grebin and Caroline Lorenz Grebin. He moved with his family to Carimona, Fillmore County, Minnesota around 1865. He later married Zella Ibach and together they had seven children.
Joseph died on January 18th 1909 after suffering with cancer of the stomach for about a year. According to his obituary, he died around 11 o'clock in the morning.
