Born February 1899, he was conscripted in October 1917 and transferred to Northern France March 1918. Trained as a machine gunner, it was in this capacity that he was declared missing when he stayed behind to cover the retreat of his comrades near Zonnebeke. Buried in Polygon wood cemetary as the only German grave there.
