The ten companies of the 16th Georgia Volunteers were raised in the counties of Madison, Elbert, Gwinnett, Habersham, Jackson, and Hart.The 16th Georgia was sent to Virginia and assigned to General Howell Cobb's, T.R.R. Cobb's, Wofford's, and Dubose's Brigade. It fought in McGruder's Peninsular Campaign; then with McLaws Brigade in the Army of Northern Virginia from the Seven Days' Battles to Gettysburg; then moved with Longstreet but was not engaged in the fight at Chickamauga. After serving at Knoxville, the 16th Georgia returned to Virginia and was involved at The Wilderness and Spotsylvania, North Anna, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Cedar Creek and Saylors Creek. Having sustained heavy casualties, the 16th surrendered 2 officers and 51 enlisted men at Appomattox Court House. James Glosson was among them.
