She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and volunteered there. She was also a member of the Steelworkers Local #1404-Women's Auxillary. Bette was an avid bowler in her younger years and played cards in a canasta club. She was a den mother for Cub Scouts and a troop leader for the Brownies and Girl Scouts and also enjoyed gardening and growing tomatoes with her husband, Ed. She loved to cook and bake for her family. Bette was rated by her family as the world's best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Bette is survived by her four children, James (Lynn), Richard (Paula), Darlene (Jerry Johnson) and Susan Scanlon; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Agnes Ripp.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 70 years, Edmund; 4 brothers, Hardy, John, Albert & Roman and 3 sisters, Johanna Kalscheur, Bertha Scheuerell and Leona Laufenberg.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Waunakee Manor; Dr. Philip Bain and the staff at Dean Clinic East-Internal Medicine; and the ER, ICU and Cardiac Care Unit staff at St. Mary's Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at ST. PETER'S CATHOLIC CHURCH with Msgr. Charles Schluter and Fr. Roger Nilles concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue, and again on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church or the food pantry of your choice.
