The daughter of Allen Taylor Caperton, a United States Senator, and Mary Echols Caperton, she married Tomlin Braxton on 3 January 1861. The couple produced six children. A gentle pure and happy heart, a courageous spirit, and a vigorous mind combined to perfect the loveliness and nobility of her character, and inspired her life of exalted piety and unselfish devotion.
