James Edward Jackson was the son of James Stephen Jackson and Elizabeth Halloran.

He was a survivor of the Halifax Explosion, which killed forty-five members of his extended family.

He was a member of the extended Jackson family of Halifax. It is believed this family suffered the worse losses from the Explosion. Around sixty-four members of the extended family were in Halifax at the time and forty-six died.

He was first married to Margaret Topping on 6 Jan 1890. The couple had the following children:

Mary Celia "Minnie" (6 May 1889)
James Alfred (6 Feb 1891-After 1923)
Sophye B.(8 Feb 1893)
Annie (9 Apr 1895-6 Dec 1917)
Lewis Patrick (4 July 1899-6 Dec 1917)

At the time of the Explosion, James was living at 18 Duffus Street.

James lost his wife, a daughter and a son in the disaster.

James was later remarried to Frances Amilia O'Toole Coleman on 25 Jan 1922. She was also a Halifax Explosion survivor and widow.

Sadly, James passed away just a year later in an accident.

He is buried in Mount Olivet, Cemetery.
