Mathias Askins was a fisherman on the Hudson River. One day, after a day's fishing and walking home with some other fisherman he felt ill and sat down on the railroad tracks to rest. He died there almost immediately. He left 7 children at home and another daughter who was already married as well as his wife, Hannah Thompson of Brunswick who outlived him by 42 years.
