Jesse D. Bird, 68, passed away on Wednesday August 14th, 1985 in Jacksonville, FL after a lengthy illness. A native of Metter, GA, he had lived in Jacksonville for over 45 years. He was a retired store room keeper employed with the state of FL with 29 years of service. Mr. Bird served as a Sgt. in the US Air Force in WW II and was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Services were held Friday August 16th, 1985 at 2pm in the Hardage-Giddens Guardian Chapel with Dr. E.C. McDaniel officiating. Intombment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL with full military honors at graveside. Mr. Bird is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Hazel Kirkland Bird; two stepsons, Wallace R. Kirkland and Jerry T. Carter; and four grandchildren.

God saw he was getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around him, and whispered "come with me". With tearful eyes we watched him suffer, and saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.
