Emma Cordelia Carter was the daughter of William Alexander Brown and Mary Jane Ailshie.

On September 7, 1895 in Greene County, Tennessee she married John Mack Carter.

They were the parents of 10 children.

Emma Cordelia Brown Carter, linage, (William Alexander Brown, Peter Ebenezer Brown, Jeremiah Brown, Abraham Brown.

Abraham Brown, lived in Washington County, Tennessee, and he sold his farm to one of his sons, Stephen Fletcher Brown, a few of his children stayed and several moved with him to Illinois, where he was one of the first settlers of Georgetown, Vermilion County, Illinois.
