John Wesley Shed, the son of James & Jenny, came with the large family from Carroll Co. GA in 1850 to Shelby Co. TX in 1860. John married a Ferguson and had four daughters. He enlisted in the CSA in the 11th TX regiment, Vol Infantry #K, out of Titus Co. TX with his brother William. His wife died before 1874, and he then married his deceased best friend's wife, Mrs.Eveline Cannon Cowan in Bell Co. TX., having an additional 3 sons. Both she and John had obtained land around Oakhalla and there they settled until John's death in 1907.
