Charles E. Burton died yesterday at noon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Shafer, 12 Hughes St. following a brief illness. He was 78. Mr. Burton was born in Ashley, September 1, 1874, son of the late James and Margaret Keiser Burton, and lived in Ashley until 13 years ago when he took up residence with this daughter. He was a blacksmith by trade, having worked at the Central Railroad's Ashley Shops for many years. He retired several years ago. Surviving also are a daughter, Mrs. Hugh Warner, Ashley; a son, Roy, Wilkes Barre; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral will be held from Harold Snowdon Home, 64 North Franklin St, Friday at 2 with Rev. Milo singer of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Interment in Oaklawn Cemetery.
