Mary Gifford was born April 27, 1802 in Herkimer County, New York. She was the daughter of Rev. War Patriot Absalom Hough Gifford and his wife Mary Williams. It appears that she grew up in the German Flatts area of Herkimer County. She was married to Ammi H. Sawyer abt. 1825/26. They had three children that were born in New York State: Jane Antoinette whom married Daniel Brown; Mary whom married David Bennett, Myron whom I last find reference to in his fathers probate and the youngest child Samuel was born in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Mary and Ammi moved to Bradford County, Pennsylvania by 1840 where Ammi is enumerated and where their youngest son was also born in 1840. Ammi and Mary's family is enumerated in 1850 in Wells Township, Bradford County, PA. By 1860 the family has moved to the Albion area of Calhoun County, Michigan. They probably moved there in the early 1850's. Mary died July 14, 1867 and was buried July 19, 1867 in the Riverside Cemetery in Albion.
