He was a lifelong resident of Bay City, the owner of Zarate's Café, and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He is survived by his daughters: Maria Esther Ansaldua of The Woodlands, San Juanita Estrello & husband David of Freeport, Eva Lopez & husband Jose of Freeport, Patricia Ann Velasquez of Pasadena, Santos Lopez & husband Jimmy of Bay City, Juanita Hernandez & husband Domingo of Bensonville, IL, Angelia Cortinas of Pasadena and Felicia Ramirez of La Porte; his sisters: Amada Gonzales and Joyce Cantu of Bay City, Margaret Parrada and Mary Escobar of Houston, Hope Villarreal of California and Natalie Valadez of Aurora, CO; his brothers: Guadalupe Zarate of Ft. Worth, Julian Zarate of Orange, George Zarate of Houston, Alonzo Zarate of Nederland, Emilio Zarate of Pasadena, Carmel Zarate of Pearland, Thomas Zarate of College Station and Phil Zarate of Bay City; and by 25 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Emilia Zarate; his son: Miguel Perez Rodriguez; his parents Gregorio & Maria Zarate; a sister: Paula Zarate and his brothers: Francisco and Marcelino Zarate.
The Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Monday, August 20, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Gerry Cernoch officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.
