My mother. Loving mother who took in a handicapped nephew when she herself was young and unmarried and after both her parents had died and raised him as her son. After mom married our father, both raised and cared for the boy as their own, as well as their three daughters. Worked at F.W. Woolworth for many years, and was a fixture every morning on the Dorr Street bus heading into downtown Toledo. Mom never learned to drive until she was well into her fifties. After our father died, mom retired and she finally had a few years to kick up her heels and have a bit of fun--she was able to drive herself around town to visit friends and enjoy card parties, and she enjoyed trips to Frankenmuth, Michigan and other attractions around northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, trips to the Pacific coast, and visiting her daughters and grandchildren. Mom was a lifesaver to me when 3 of 4 of my own children came down with chickenpox at the same time and my husband was out of town and I had work commitments. Mom left Toledo to stay with my family for over two weeks in southern Ohio and didn't miss a beat--kept up with three itchy schoolaged kids cooped up indoors and she never once lost her patience or complained! Mom had the heart and patience of an angel.

Unfortunately, the free, fun time did not last too long for mom. Rheumatoid arthritis began to affect her mobility and she moved to Lancaster, Ohio to be closer to family members for assistance. Mom remained in Lancaster for over 13 years until her death. She was returned to Toledo to be buried next to our father. They were married 38 years until his death.
