Anna Lou Hutchins was a daughter of Charles H. and Susie N. Hutchins. In the 1900 census of Hancock County, Georgia, she is listed as Anna L., 16, born in December 1883 in Georgia.

Anna married James Wallace Butts, Jr., about 1904. Their son, James Wallace Butts, III, was born 7 February 1905.
One biography of her son, "Wally" Butts, the legendary Hall of Fame football coach of the University of Georgia, lists her as "Anna Louisetta Hutchinson."

Anna Lou's obituary, published in the Macon Daily Telegraph, March 13, 1908, indicates she died on 11 March:
Milledgeville, Ga., March 12 - Mrs. Wallace Butts died at her home in this city yesterday afternoon after an illness of a year. Recently she was operated on at Dr. Rawlins' sanitarium at Sandersville, but her condition grew worse until her death. Mrs. Butts was a Miss Annie Lou Hutchins of this county, she leaves a devoted husband, one son of three years, her parents and two brothers. Her remains will be interred at the Black Springs cemetery[*], six miles from the city.
